Frequently asked questions

Which SBI rate do I use for RSU / ESPP perquisite and capital gains?

Rule 115 of the Income-tax Rules: the SBI telegraphic transfer (TT) buying rate on the last day of the month immediately preceding the month of the event. For an RSU vesting on 15 June 2025, use the rate for 31 May 2025. For a sale, use the rate for the month-end before the month of sale; for dividends, the month-end before the month the dividend is paid.

Which rate do I use in Schedule FA?

Schedule FA values are converted at the SBI TT buying rate on the relevant date itself: the date of acquiring the asset for the initial value, the peak date for the peak value, and 31 December for the closing balance. For calendar year 2025, the 31-Dec-2025 rate is ₹89.47.

What if SBI did not publish a rate on that date?

On Sundays and bank holidays SBI publishes no card. Use the rate from the last card published before that date — the lookup on this page does that automatically and tells you which card date it used.

Which SBI card are these rates from?

SBI publishes Forex Card Rates every working day. These are from the card SBI labels “To be used as reference rates” (the ₹10–20 lakh slab), which has been the only card since December 2023. Our month-end rates from 2022 were each checked against SBI's original PDF.

Is there a faster way to do the whole calculation?

Yes — the ESOP / RSU / ESPP Tax Toolkit has every one of these rates built in and calculates the perquisite, capital gains, foreign tax credit and Schedule FA for you, ready to type into ITR-2.
